Tilburg is a breeding ground for creative talent. That soil is created by our vibrant makerscene, but also by the facilities in the city that contribute to an excellent production climate. And those facilities we like to highlight for you!
With this time in our spotlight Studio Six, a contemporary music studio where everyone is welcome to try something out. As part of music school Factorium, a wide range of activities is offered in the studio space of Studio Six. The focus here is on offering coaching/consultation within various music courses and workshops, such as music production, rap/songwriting, career guidance for artists and DJ classes. The space is also used as a full-fledged music studio by professionals. An open studio session takes place every Wednesday. Between 16:00 and 21:00 everyone is welcome to come and take a look, meet other makers or receive guidance from a coach from the field. So there is plenty to do at Studio Six! We talked about it with Dennis Westerhout, project manager at Studio Six.
“I've been producing for about ten years now, and also for several years from Tilburg. I got to know an awful lot of people here. Factorium asked me to become project manager of Studio Six; a space they had had and were already using to give courses. We converted the space into a professional studio, where courses can be given, but also rehearsals and where creators come to record music.”
Music is for everyone, but not everyone has access to facilities to make it themselves.
In addition to the courses offered by Factorium, Dennis believes it is important to make the path to the studio as easy as possible for budding creators. “Music is for everyone. But not everyone always has the facilities to make it themselves. Or isn't naturally exposed to it. So hence we thought it would be really nice to be able to introduce people to music, to a studio and more people making music. We're doing this by hosting an open studio session called Playgroud.” So how exactly does that work? “The idea is that every Wednesday, between 16:00 and 21:00 everyone is welcome in the studio. A coach will be there, who also works in the industry. And people come to those open sessions for all kinds of reasons. There are young people who have never made music before, who are just curious about how it all works. But there are also people who make music and want to show their new demos, or people who come by to network or make music videos. Anyone who is creative or wants to be creative is welcome. It really is a place for everyone and you notice that, which is very nice to see.”
