The Netherlands Youth Orchestra (JON) brings together around 75 young musicians aged 14–21. Whether they combine school with music or are following a preparatory course at a conservatory, they all share one thing: their love of music.

Under the baton of the enthusiastic conductor Jurjen Hempel, the JON performs both classical masterpieces and surprising contemporary compositions. The orchestra sounds fresh, energetic, and always at a high level. Since 1959, the JON has been offering young musicians the opportunity to develop: rehearsing, performing, and growing together, with a focus on technique, interpretation, and the joy of playing. For some, it is a springboard to a professional career; for others, a valuable experience for later in life. Either way, at the JON, you grow both musically and personally.

This winter, the JON takes you on an impressive tour with works by Brahms and Sibelius from the late Romantic period. Experience the powerful sound of tomorrow's musicians in a program that warms both the heart and the ears.

The focus is on Brahms' Double Concerto, his last work for orchestra. Violin and cello compete with each other and find each other in a compelling musical conversation, supported by a powerful orchestral foundation and a velvety soft underlay. The soloists are Diana Fakour (violin) and Emma Naegele (cello), known together as Duo Vita. They won the NJON prize at the Prinses Christina Concours Klassiek in 2025, thanks to their fluid ensemble playing, musical persuasiveness, and joy of performance.

The orchestra also delves into Sibelius' impressive Symphony No. 1. The work begins with a clarinet solo and unfolds in four movements in which numerous instruments shine. A wonderful opportunity for the young musicians to showcase their orchestral playing and solo talent. The final movement brings everything together in a grand and triumphant ensemble performance – exactly what a youth orchestra excels at. Be surprised by the energy, enthusiasm, and joy of playing of the Netherlands Youth Orchestra. A musical experience you won't want to miss!
