'Under the pseudonym Tough and Vulnerable, Houda shows that vulnerability is not weakness, but pure strength. She is a multidisciplinary spoken word artist who writes, performs, produces, coaches and hosts. Her work is raw, honest and straightforward. She exposes painful truths and forces you to listen, to feel. Her pen cuts deep.
She writes about injustice, discrimination, racism and love in all its forms. No subject is too heavy, no emotion too great. On stage, she brings the uncomfortable truth with sharp words and an open heart. Her journey began in 2014 at Words Become Phrases. Since then, she has made her mark on the spoken word scene.
She has appeared on stages such as Wordsplay during International Women's Day, Mensen Zeggen Dingen - where she is also an editorial board member and project leader - and festivals such as the Opera Forward Festival 2021, RRReuring, Sites of Memory, The Stage, and the Amsterdams Kleinkunst Festival. As the protagonist in the Netherlands' first-ever Spoken Word Opera at the Nationale Opera en Ballet, she brought to life a groundbreaking story, changing not only the audience, but also the history of the stage. But Houda is more than a performer. She fights. As founder of the anti-racism action group For Our Community in Tilburg and organizer of Safe Space events, she creates places where people are heard and change begins.
Her words are not just art - they are weapons, building blocks and mirrors. Houda confronts, moves and leaves you with one question: what do you do with the truth you have just heard?
