From 4 June, the Brabant Nature Museum will be presenting the new exhibition ‘Giga: discover insects as you’ve never seen them before’. The exhibition features impressive, extremely enlarged macro photographs of Dutch insects, taken by photographer Sipke Wadman.

A hidden world full of colour

The photographs reveal a hidden world full of colour, detail and texture. For years, Wadman photographed insects from his own garden and the surrounding area using a homemade microscope, a painstaking process that resulted in razor-sharp images in which even the tiniest details are visible. The photographs show that beauty lies not only in large and impressive animals, but also in small and seemingly ordinary insects.

Unique six-legged creatures

With ‘Giga’, the Brabant Nature Museum highlights just how important insects are to biodiversity in the Netherlands. They pollinate plants, provide food for countless animals and break down organic matter. With many species in sharp decline, this balance is coming under increasing pressure. The exhibition brings home the urgency of the situation by bringing visitors face to face with insects they would normally overlook.
