Exhibition 50 Artist Portraits

Next weekend Saturday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 10, is the Kunstscene weekend of the Ateliers Tilburg foundation. At Gasthuisring 19 G, the former coppersmith shop, hidden behind the blue gate, the work of photographer Bert van Voorst is on display. Portrait photos of artists living or working in and around the Museum Quarter. Afterwards, the photographs will be shown for a somewhat longer time as a window exhibition in Studio De Gruyter, also on the Gasthuisring.

Bert, photographer and art lover started this project by capturing artists living and working on the Blacksmith Trail. His curiosity about the artist's natural habitat: the studio made the project expand. In the Museum Quarter, lying roughly between Central Station, the Textile Museum and the Pont, a large number of artists live and work. Invisible to the outside world, they have created their own unique workplace there. Bert van Voorst records the artist in his/her studio, giving us as visitors a small glimpse into the world where art is created: the artist's studio. Together, these (studio) portraits form a picture of the artist community in Old North.

In Tilburg, 350 Tilburgers are officially registered as artists. To make that large number manageable, Bert limited himself to our living environment: Oud Noord. In the neighborhoods Theresia, Goirke, Besterd, with the Museum Quarter as a basis, 50 artists were captured on film. When photographing, both a portrait of the artist as a person and while working in the studio are made. Come and see this impressive black and white series during Kunstscene.
