'Nite in progress' gives a unique insight into the creation of a performance. Do not expect an affe performance. Do expect a lot of experimentation, guts, live music, fresh ideas and a prelude to the large hall performance 'Oersoep'.
The rehearsal
Well before the rehearsal period ends, the doors of the rehearsal room open. A way for the audience to see up close what the craft of theater-making entails. What choices are made, which darlings are killed and how the magic is created. For the director, actors, musicians, set, lighting and costume designers a chance to test their wildest, craziest, bravest ideas.
An exploration of humanity
Oersoep is a bluegrass musical based on Bregje Hofstede's book of the same name. Inspired by the tradition of requiems and passions. A journey into what it means to carry, give birth to and care for another (human) being. An exploration of humanity on the eve of the second Industrial Revolution and beyond. The quest to find one's way through the pain of childbirth, team sports, mystics and the desire for self-loss in what seems a disenchanted era.
