After three high-profile alternative Passions, the rebellious orchestra comes up with a new groundbreaking project. Shishani - singer-songwriter, speaker, anthropologist and activist - adds her unique voice. With roots in Namibia, Belgium and the Netherlands, she fuses worlds into a powerful, musical blend of cultures and stories.
A fusion of two musical worlds
Difficult themes? Pynarello does not shy away from those. Together with the versatile Shishani, the orchestra tackles difficult themes through music. In this new Passion, two musical worlds merge: that of composer Florence Price (1887-1953) and Shishani (1987). Two women, exactly a century apart, who each in their own way conquered the world with music. Florence was the first African-American woman whose symphonies were actually performed. She has more than 300 compositions to her name.
Personal introduction
Before the concert begins, Shishani opens a special journey. Not an ordinary introduction, but a personal and musical journey to Namibia, the country of his mother. Through stories, images and musical fragments, you will feel the gap and the common ground between Namibia and the Netherlands. How do people live together? Or separate? What is the role of music within different traditions, and what does that mean for Shishani as an artist?
