Fashion plays an increasingly important role in expressing who you are. Or who you want to be. Fashion is like a second skin. Each individual surrounds and covers the body, and everyone does so in their way: sometimes more functional, sometimes to make a statement. And to make it even more complex: nowadays, you don't only dress in real life, but you can also make a fashionable statement online. Especially with the application of AI, the possibilities seem inexhaustible. This fall, the TextielMuseum brings together conceptual, sculptural fashion and body-related art from around the world to surprise visitors and at the same time make them think about contemporary dealings with the body and concepts of identity.
SHAPE shows the play with identity concepts along three thematic lines: the vulnerable body, gender diversity and the hybrid body. Within these themes, a dialogue between works emerges each time, and topics such as ethnic diversity, the contrast between luxury and poverty, man/flora/fauna, man and technology, and beauty and gender ideals are addressed.
