Sullivan Fortner Trio (US) - ft. Tyrone Allen & Kayvon Gordon

SULLIVAN-JOSEPH-FORTNER-c-Carol-Friedman-d528

Pianist Sullivan Fortner lives for swing and the sheer power of the blues. Rooted in the gospel church of New Orleans, his playing developed behind the piano from the age of seven. After completing his master's degree in New York, he played with such luminaries as Dee Dee Bridgewater and Roy Hargrove. He is now considered a prominent pianist and bandleader in the U.S.. Tonight he makes his debut in Paradox with his trio.

Jazz Without Borders

Sullivan Fortner won a Grammy for his contribution to The Window, the album he made with jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. He cherishes tradition, but also strives for musical innovation. On the legendary Impulse! Records he released Aria, and on Decca Records he released Moments Preserved.

He recently added Solo Game, an impressive double album of mostly his own compositions. In it, Fortner showcases harmonic and rhythmic ideas that sound sparkling and crystal clear. His fundamentals as a player could hardly be stronger, and his instincts as a composer and bandleader are almost startlingly mature', aldus The New York Times.*
