‘The Waverly’ gallery Anne Wil Blankers, Lies Visschedijk, Daniel Cornelissen and others.

Galerie the waverly

Theatre icon Anne Wil Blankers, audience favourite Lies Visschedijk and promising talent Daniel Cornelissen are together on stage in the Dutch version of The Waverly Gallery, the famous memory play by Broadway writer Kenneth Lonergan. This promises to be a performance full of highlights!

Heartbreaking and hilarious

Gallery ‘The Waverly’ is a poignant and often comic play about the final years of a warm-hearted, chatty grandmother (Anne Wil Blankers), who runs her small art gallery despite her battle with Alzheimer's. The story is about her attempt to maintain her independence and the impact of her illness on her family, especially her daughter (Lies Visschedijk) and grandson (Daniel Cornelissen). Through his eyes, we see the confusion and alienation, but also the strength and optimism of his grandmother. The play is more than a story about loss and memories; it highlights the humour, perseverance and connection within a family in crisis. ‘The Waverly’ gallery shows in a heartbreaking yet hilarious way how a family balances between teetering and clinging to each other.
