Tomeka Reid is the artist who has brought the cello from the margins to the heart of contemporary jazz in recent years. Besides her own impressive albums, she has collaborated with such luminaries as Nicole Mitchell, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Makaya McCraven and Jamie Branch. With 3+3, Reid pushes her musical boundaries, this time together with phenomenal guitarist Mary Halvorson.
‘As a cellist, I was always anti-electronics,’ Reid explains. ‘I love the pure, acoustic cello sound. But when I play with Mary, I appreciate how electronics become an essential part of her sound.’
A must-see for anyone who loves groundbreaking jazz!
