Grollegat en Buunderbrug

De buunder

At the place where Kommerstraat and Koebrugseweg meet in Moerenburg is a fen traditionally known as De Buunder or De Bunder, but mentioned on topographical maps as Grollegat.

From mill pond to fishpond

De Buunder possibly used to function as a mill pond, intended to supply the water mill with water even in dry periods. An old bed of De Leij, known as the Oude Leij, once flowed through this fen. Part of this bed is still present. Along the road to Moergestel, in the extension of the Koebrugseweg, there was a bridge over the old bed of De Leij on Berkel territory for centuries. This bridge was known as the Bunderbrug or Baarsbrug. Today, the fen is used as a fishpond.
