An old Dutch story
Foxtrot is set in the turbulent 1930s: a period full of glitz and glamour, but also marked by the looming threat of war and poverty. Against this backdrop, Josien, an innocent girl from the countryside, finds herself in an Amsterdam boarding house for performers. There, she is swept up in the turbulent lives of revue performers Jules and Lisette. What begins as an exciting romantic adventure evolves into a poignant story of forbidden relationships, an unexpected pregnancy, and difficult choices. A quintessentially Dutch tale brimming with humor, emotion, glamour, and tragedy, written with Annie M.G. Schmidt’s characteristic wit.
