In I Like Art and Art Likes Me, Adolf Hitler and Joseph Beuys meet on the theater stage. Creator Silke van Kamp and writers Jip Vuik and Willem de Wolf create an imaginary confrontation that could have changed the course of history, had it ever taken place.

Why those two!? Because art might just be able to save the world after all… After World War II, Beuys caused a sensation in the art world. He believed that every person was an artist and could change the world through art. That’s why he wanted to admit everyone to his classes at the art academy. If Hitler, an aspiring painter, had been rejected twice by the art academy, would he have become a dictator?

As the Nazi leader, Hitler heavily relied on art as a tool of propaganda and labeled all art that did not promote the Nazi ideal as “degenerate.” In addition to being an artist, Beuys was also a political activist and co-founded the German Green Party. In I Like Art and Art Likes Me, art is pulled out of its safe haven and used to wage an ideological war.
