Magdalena Abakanowicz - Everything is made of fiber will be on display at the TextielMuseum in Tilburg starting April 18. This exhibition is part of the grand tribute to this Polish artist that the museum is organizing together with Het Noordbrabants Museum and the North Brabant Provincial Building.

Under the heading Great, greater, greatest, the three institutions will present the broadest possible picture of the extraordinary life and work of the pioneer of installation art. Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930 - 2017) ensured that textiles were no longer seen as an applied art form, but as autonomous art. But she also broached universal, topical themes and made impressive installations, with which she was far ahead of her time. She inspires artists to this day, including in the TextielLab, the professional workshop at the TextielMuseum.

Magdalena Abakanowicz created a furor in the 1960s and 1970s, but then fell into oblivion with the general public. “We want to change that in these times when textiles are being rediscovered as a unique artistic medium,” says Nathanja van Dijk, Head of Museum Affairs at the TextielMuseum. "Moreover, Abakanowicz's work, thinking and themes shed new light on pressing social questions. We can also learn something from her today. Because her work is so extensive and influential, three institutions have joined forces and together we invite visitors to discover the complete story. That her largest and most impressive work of art was specially created for the Brabant Provincial House is very special. This work forms a fantastic link between the exhibitions in our museum and in The North Brabant Museum."
