Step into a Greek taverna filled with music, stories and togetherness. Experience the music of Mikis Theodorakis with top musicians, Vasilis Lekkas and a local choir in an evening full of warmth, hope and resistance.
Music that crosses borders
On stage, Schneemann & Friends brings together an international ensemble of top musicians with backgrounds in classical music, jazz and folk traditions from around the world. Together with Greek singer Vasilis Lekkas, one of the leading interpreters of Theodorakis' repertoire, they bring the music to life. Behind them, a life-sized film projection takes you to a taverna in Piraeus, a place Theodorakis himself loved to visit.
The musicians on stage perform live alongside musicians who happen to enter the taverna on screen. For a moment, the boundaries between past and present, and between here and there, seem to disappear. Historical and iconic film footage of Theodorakis as a singer, conductor, composer and philosopher appears throughout the performance. The music creates a rich sound in which Greek traditions meet influences from different musical worlds. A local choir also joins the performance, giving each evening its own character and making the connection with the city tangible, here in Tilburg as well.
