In Co(te)lette, Ann Van den Broek presents three female dancers in an intimate setting, caught in a vicious circle between desire and fulfilment. There is no confrontation or rivalry, no story is told, there is no resolution, no ending. Co(te)lette is a restless, and ultimately… empty sketch.
Co(te)lette is a production from 2007. This revival, almost twenty years on, is particularly significant in the current neo-conservative climate. It confronts us with the stagnation of women’s emancipation and the erosion of the right to define one’s own sexuality and physicality. At the same time, in Ann Van den Broek’s personal sphere, it is also a confrontation with the passing of time.
The original production of Co(te)lette was awarded the Zwaan for the most impressive dance production of the 2007–2008 season. The production was previously staged at Lowlands and toured internationally, with performances in London, Montreal, Beijing, Lublin, Munich and Helsinki, amongst others.
