Queer History Month in Kazernehof

Reading Shelf Queer

March 2025 marks the fifth annual Queer History Month in the Netherlands. IHLIA (heritage organization in the field of lhbtiq+) and other participating cultural institutions are collaborating on a platform focusing on the celebration and transmission of lhbtiq+ histories, stories and achievements. Regionaal Archief Tilburg and Stadsmuseum Tilburg are also joining.

Forty institutions from across the country are participating and presenting an object with queer themes this year. Both archives and museums are participating. Stadsmuseum Tilburg and Regionaal Archief Tilburg are also jointly participating. In March, visit the building at Kazernehof 75 in Tilburg and come see some objects from both of these collections. They are on display in the central hall.

In addition, the archive organizes a
Queer walk on March 12 (already full) and 26. This is organized on a regular basis. The walk starts at the archive, explaining the importance of keeping private documents or documents from your association or club.

Tilburg City Museum

In Stadsmuseum Tilburg's collection, you will find several reading boards, including one developed in Tilburg in 2019 on the occasion of Pink Monday, the Gaysplankje. The purpose of this reading board is to shed light on the diversity of sexual orientations. The board explains terms such as transgender, kink, polyamory, intersex, asexual and pansexual. This reading board can be viewed along with other reading boards during Queer History Month.

Tilburg Regional Archives

Queer history can hardly be found in archives. Regionaal Archief Tilburg is therefore very pleased that the archives of COC Tilburg Breda and surroundings have been included in the collection.
One of the tasks of an archive is to document society. For forty years, Regionaal Archief Tilburg had only two A4s on the queer community in Tilburg. In recent years, this has changed. The queer collection has expanded to four archival boxes with documents, photos, diaries and magazines from the COC Tilburg Breda and surroundings and the Werkgroep Homofilie Tilburg, among others. A selection will be on display during Queer History Month.
