This fall, De Pont Museum is dedicating its program to Sigmar Polke. Featuring some fifty works from the 1980s through the late 2000s, the exhibition The Knowledge of Colors shows how this German artist continued to experiment with paint, color, and materials.

Polke (1941–2010) was an artist who did not like to be pigeonholed into a single style. He worked with lacquer, resin, pigments, and chemicals, allowing chance and the materials themselves to take the lead. His fascination with color was reignited after a long journey through Southeast Asia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, and Tasmania. As a result, his work brings together nature, culture, history, and politics. The exhibition also brings together exceptional works from Dutch and international collections, some of which have never before been on view in the Netherlands.
