Zijwieltjes - Astrid Moors

Astrid Moors

Astrid Moors’ (Rotterdam) new exhibition is also set on the street. Her new work, at times illuminated by a hint of black light, is perfectly at home behind the ten windows on Stedekestraat.

From street scenes to rhythm and colour

Moors uses a familiar street scene as her starting point: young trees secured with three wooden stakes and rubber bands. In the paintings, the trees and their supports are reduced to lines, circles, rhythm and colour. Sometimes bright and vivid, sometimes using neon paint, sometimes very subtle. The motif appears in Moors’ earlier works, in which she combines a young sapling with training wheels with a block of flats, a rhythm of orange and lilac pixels. See also the image, ‘Paso Doble’, a diptych as a frozen manoeuvre.
