The Sisters of Charity has been one of the largest congregations in our country. The sisters came to live in a weaver's cottage in ‘t Heike in 1832.

‘The house with the thirteen cells’

In May 1834, the sisters moved into their new building on the Oude Dijk: ‘The house with the thirteen cells’ was built with stones from the old barn church. The mother house grew into a huge complex that housed nuns, students of the training school, elderly sisters and the administration. There are three chapels: the main chapel, the novice chapel and the postulant chapel.
