Choreographers Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana were recently awarded the Dansersfonds'79 Merit Prize, a fine recognition for their unique contribution to Dutch dance. The jury praised their quirky and impressive performances, in which dance and music come together in surprising ways. That is exactly what EUTERPIANS does: an energetic mix of dance and live music, in which LeineRoebana joins forces with three top musicians. Singer Elisabeth Hetherington enchants with her playful movements and crystal-clear soprano voice. Cellist Maya Fridman brings deep, intense sounds, while percussionist Marianna Soroka switches effortlessly between keyboard, vibraphone and psalterion. Together with the dancers and choreographers of LeineRoebana, they celebrate the power of the feminine, not as a statement, but in a natural and playful way, with a wink here and there.
From the first note, the audience is taken on a journey through time and style, from Hildegard von Bingen to Kate Moore, from ancient melodies to modern rhythms. EUTERPIANS is bursting with energy and contrasts: experimental yet harmonious, rhythmic yet dreamy, subtle yet exuberant. A performance that touches, surprises and leaves you with a big smile.
